- Proud as a Peacock - a colourful, vibrant oil painting that celebrates the sheer extravagance of the posturing peacock
- This painting is a great example of the fauvist colours which my brain sees all the time, sweeping & swirling, using them to show the proud bird who actually embodies them in the real world
- Using a palette knife allowed me to build layer upon layer of colour in order to exaggerate & make visible the unique differences between the individual feathers which usually look the same to the naked eye
- In honesty, this was probably one of the hardest pieces I’ve done as my brain simply doesn’t see shapes the way other people do so it was a slow process of trial & error, as I did what I always do - dig in & determine to achieve a result, regardless of the odds.
- Of course one of reasons I chose the peacock - apart from his stunning colours - was his symbolism. The peacock represents regrowth & regeneration, which more or less sums up my life.
